When it comes to commercial cleaning and janitorial services, you don’t think about innovation or science. You just spray some cleaning solution, wipe it around and you’re done. Not so fast.
If the era of coronavirus has done anything positive, it’s that it has brought to the forefront the importance of proper cleaning and sanitization materials and protocols.
Colonial Commercial Cleaning has been providing cleaning and janitorial services to Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. for more than 10 years. For the first time in our history our clients are asking about which specific cleaning products we’re using. They’re asking about cross contamination protocols and they want to know that we’re utilizing the best products and practices that science has to offer.
One of the tools we have used for years because it provides a superior level of cleaning are microfiber cloths.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), “Microfiber’s cleaning ability is the result of two simple things: more surface area and a positive charge.”
The science behind these cleaning cloths is pretty amazing. The “micro” part is referring to how thin the cloth fibers are. They are in the neighborhood of 200 times thinner than a human hair. That creates a ton of surface area that allows the cloth to capture large quantities of germs, microbes and spores.
Microfiber cloths that are used for cleaning are positively charged. If you remember from high school science, positive and negative charges attract like a magnet. Dirt and grease are negatively charged so they naturally stick to the microfiber cloth until it can be washed.
At Colonial, we love that the cloths come in a variety of colors and sizes so that we can supply each facility with the perfect set of microfiber cloths. The colors make it fun, but we train all of our employees to use certain colors for specific applications so that there is never any cross contamination.
If that wasn’t enough, the cloths can be washed 1,000 times without losing their effectiveness and that lowers costs for us, costs for our clients and lessens the impact on the environment because it reduces waste.
Now you know more about microfiber cloths and why we utilize this amazing product in all of our facilities.
