You might want to put down your morning bagel before you read this, otherwise you could lose your appetite! Obviously, everyone knows that germs are everywhere, but you probably haven’t thought that through completely.

Health.com released a list of The Dirty Dozen: The 12 Germiest Places in America. From that list, we’ve pulled the three you’re most likely to encounter on a work day and how to keep those rapscallion bacteria under control.

The Kitchen Sink

Oh boy. If you have a kitchen sink at work, you might want to make sure you’ve got some soap and hot water ready before you visit it again. Kitchen sinks have 500,000 bacteria per square inch in the drain alone—in fact, the experts say that a kitchen sink is “dirtier than most bathrooms.”

Commercial cleaners are your best bet, but sometimes the sink’s going to get dirty during the work day. If you have the time, wipe it down with hot water and soap. If not, just make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before and after you use the sink, and don’t touch any food until your hands have been washed!
